Matching hardware to workload

EDUGATEBOX is available in two models at different price/performance points, so education authorities can choose the right solution to fit individual school needs without spending extra on performance they don’t need.

Everything needed to get a computer lab online

Ideal for schools connecting to the internet for the first time, EDUGATEBOX020 hardware delivers sufficient processing power to manage up to 25Mbps of internet traffic from up to 20 devices.

This model has enough storage capacity to cache large software update files from Microsoft or Apple, store the entire Rachel Offline project library and still leave plenty of space for general web content.

EDUGATEBOX020 has a compact design ideal for deployment in the classroom. As most schools getting connecting don’t have a Wi-Fi network in place, it includes a Wi-Fi antenna so students can connect to EDUGATEBOX directly.

Should student devices be used in more than one location, connectivity can be extended to other classrooms and buildings with additional Wi-Fi Access Points (APs). These can be purchased from any vendor (we’re happy to recommend some reliable, cost-effective APs used by our schools customers), and will easily connect to EDUGATEBOX.

Protect and optimise Wi-Fi networks

For those schools who already have an internet connection and some Wi-Fi Access Points (APs) for student devices to get online across their site, EDUGATEBOX050 will protect and optimise those connections.

It contains enough processing power to provide filtering, traffic shaping and firewall services for connections up to 50Mbps. It also has more storage than EDUGATEBOX050 so individual schools can cache far more content, ideal for when making greater use of online content in classrooms.

Designed to support up to 50 devices, EDUGATEBOX050 is delivered in a half 1U rack-mountable chassis. It doesn’t include a Wi-Fi antenna. As such it should be deployed where the internet connection enters the school, with connectivity extended to classrooms via a wired network or Wi-Fi devices which connect to EDUGATEBOX.

CFast/SD for security, reliability and redundancy

EDUGATEBOX makes clever use of flash storage for all configuration data:

  • In the unlikely event of failure, simply swapping cards to a replacement appliance will get a school up and running with an identical system in minutes
  • CFast/SD cards are proven to be much more reliable than hard disks. With unexpected events such as power outages, the risk of corruption to software or configuration data is minimised
