Leading register nominates DNSBOX for IPv6 rollout
ApplianSys today announced that Nominet has selected DNSBOX to help accelerate its move to IPv6.
Like many registries around the world Nominet has been actively promoting the adoption of DNSSEC and IPv6 to counter threats to DNS and the exhaustion of the IPv4 space. It has led the drive for change by making its own services available over IPv6 to its members and by signing the UK’s Top Level Domain (TLD).
“Up until now network administrators at the registry have been configuring BIND files directly,” says Magdalena Jovanovic, DNSBOX product manager. “Whilst this is possible for shorter IPv4 addresses, it isn’t a viable option when you’re dealing with a large IPv6 address space. As well as increasing the risk of errors creeping in, it’s also a massive drain on administrator time.”
Foreseeing the problems ahead, Nominet engineers began evaluating a number of leading DDI (DNS, DHCP & IPAM) appliances and after extensive testing chose DNSBOX400 from ApplianSys. As well as making IPv6 deployments easy DNSBOX offers full support for DNSSEC and simplifies IP address management.
Established in 1996 as a private, not-for-profit company, Nominet (www.nominet.org.uk) operates at the heart of e-commerce in the UK, running one of the world’s largest Internet registries and managing over six million domain names.
