Four Seasons closes Windows on DHCP
ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Four Seasons Heating & Cooling, one of Chicago’s largest heating and air conditioning service providers, has deployed DNSBOX to take over internal DNS from Windows domain controllers at four of its locations.
The company had been running internal DNS on Windows domain controllers at each site. As it moved to a model with domain controllers centralised rather than local, it still needed DNS to resolve locally at each location.
If the internet connection drops or a site-to-site VPN goes down, local devices still need name resolution to keep working. So, local DNS service was needed at each site, but that’s not a good reason to keep a several full Windows Servers running.
The company had previously looked at enterprise DDI platforms and found them overkill, both in capability and in price, for what amounted to a well-defined internal DNS requirement.
Four DNSBOX210 appliances have now been deployed across the four sites where the team is ready to decommission Windows, acting as local DNS servers that keep resolving whether or not the connection to the central domain controller is up.
