ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the UK has chosen DNSBOX instead of Windows to run DHCP services for its Voice over IP (VoIP) solution.

The Trust recently implemented VoIP at its two hospitals to save telecommunication costs, and required a DHCP solution to provide IP addresses to its new devices.

With around 2,000 users at its main Hillingdon Hospital and 500 users at Mount Vernon Hospital, network manager Tom Croft needed a solution for 3,000 client licences. His existing Windows DHCP server was not capable of handling that licence volume without significant cost – and he needed a higher level of performance too.

Along with affordability and performance, Tom needed the new solution to be easy to manage, with little administration or maintenance required by his team. Continuity was also key – so if an outage was to happen, staff could still use their VoIP devices.

Following a consultation with ApplianSys, the Trust chose four DNSBOX210 units. These can handle thousands of DHCP requests – and they can be configured as physical or virtual machines, providing the best-fit for the Trust’s rack-space requirements.

With built-in automation tools and custom VoIP configurations, deployment was quick and easy. ApplianSys engineers configured the units in high-availability pairs at each hospital, so if one unit ever goes offline, it will automatically fail over to the next – meeting the requirement for vital continuity.

“Hillingdon Hospitals needed to replace its Windows DHCP solution to support a major VoIP rollout. DNSBOX provides the performance and availability to meet their critical needs,” commented DNSBOX Product Manager Magdelana Jovanovic.
