Cutler hedges network risk

ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Cutler Investment Group has deployed DNSBOX to deliver reliable, fully redundant DHCP and DNS services across four sites in Alaska, Washington, Oregon and California.

Cutler Investment Group needed to replace an existing Microsoft Windows Server DHCP/DNS setup with a more robust design. Previously, DHCP and DNS traffic was routed through Jacksonville, Oregon — creating a single point of dependency. If that site went down, other locations could lose internet access.

The requirement was straightforward: each site must keep working independently, even if VPN links between sites are disrupted, while still keeping DNS data synchronised across the organisation.

To achieve this, Cutler Investment Group deployed:

  • Four DNSBOX200 appliances, licensed for DHCP and recursive DNS, providing local IP address allocation and dynamic DNS updates
  • One DNSBOX300 master appliance to synchronise DDNS updates across all sites and provide central DNS management

With DNSBOX in place, Cutler Investment Group now has independent DHCP and DNS at each location, eliminating reliance on a single site for core network services. Support for DHCP relay also means local appliances can prioritise local DHCP responses, while synchronising changes once connectivity is restored. The result is improved resilience alongside centralised visibility and granular control of DNS records.

About Cutler Investment Group

Cutler Investment Group is an investment firm with operations across four locations in the United States: Alaska, Washington, Oregon and California. The organisation required dependable, resilient network services across all sites, with the ability for each location to operate independently if inter-site VPN connectivity was disrupted. By moving away from a centralised, Windows Server-based DHCP/DNS design, Cutler Investment Group aimed to reduce risk associated with single-site dependency, improve continuity of service during outages, and maintain consistent DNS data across its estate through synchronisation and central management.
