A CACHEBOX for All Seasons
ApplianSys is pleased to announce that the Four Seasons Resort in Maldives has bought a CACHEBOX solution to ensure faster internet browsing for its guests.
Four Seasons Maldives has 2 hotels: the first has a 50 Mbps link serving around 2000 users, with around 1000 users browsing the internet at any point; the second has a 60 Mbps links used by around 1500 users, with around 700 concurrent users.
The hotel’s Network Manager, Abillash Vijayan, noticed that at times the internet connection wasn’t as fast as its users would expect. A high speed web browsing experience is considered a given for a hotel of Four Season’s repute and the resort wasn’t entirely satisfied with what it had to offer. Abillash considered upgrading the links but he knew this wouldn’t necessarily result in better user experience. Then he heard of caching.
CACHEBOX Sales Executive, Vasco Homem de Figueiredo, confirmed Abillash’s concerns: “We’ve seen lots of cases where bandwidth was quite good, but users still experienced slow internet speeds. In many locations, latency over the internet is a factor despite having reasonable bandwidth. And while a given level of bandwidth can be enough for average demand, in many cases usage patterns can see huge spikes in web traffic, which slow things right down. In a large hotel, you could see half the people bring a tablet device to breakfast! The adults are catching up with the news from back home or keeping on top of work, while the kids are catching up with their friends on Facebook.“
To address issues around latency and big spikes in demand the resort purchased a CACHEBOX210 solution and deployed it in one of its hotels. The company is planning to purchase another unit for the second hotel soon.
The impact on the resort’s service quality was immediate: now the hotel guests can consider fast web browsing a part of their unforgettable holiday experience.
