Nevis says never to slow internet

ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Nevis Public School District (NPSD), Minnesota, has bought a CACHEBOX210 to facilitate its 1:1 student to device scheme.

NPSD has a 45Mbps connection serving over 540 students – each with a personal tablet. When tens of network devices simultaneously downloaded new versions of OS software, the entire network ground to a halt. To eliminate this issue, the district resorted to blocking all Apple and Windows updates.

Aware this wasn’t a long term solution, the district sought an affordable but effective method to reduce its network congestion. It established that web caching could help.

As NPSD outsourced all IT services, a it wanted a solution that could be used by non-technical users, including teachers.

If needed, the district’s external IT contractor can access the unit from a web browser on any computer – without the need for an on-site visit.”

NPSD deployed a CACHEBOX210. Now software updates can be downloaded just once, and accessed locally by any device that needs them, eliminating latency.
