Roanoke IPAM electrified by DNSBOX

ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Roanoke Electric Cooperative in North Carolina USA has replaced its former DHCP and IPAM solutions with DNSBOX to better handle enormous broadband subscriber growth.

Roanoke’s ‘Vision 2025’ strategic plan will see the cooperative complete the build out of a regional FFTH (Fibre-to-the-home) broadband network. The company expects unprecedented growth in Internet Service subscribers – from 2,000 to 30,000 in just a few years.

However, Director of Broadband Network Engineering Jeremy Whitley knew the company’s current DHCP servers and inhouse tools for IP Address Management (IPAM) would not be up to the task. Roanoke’s two ISC DHCPd servers were reaching end-of-life. IPAM relied on a combination of SolarWinds and manually edited excel spreadsheets which Jeremy knew would be wholly unsuitable for the much larger address space.

An experienced network engineer, Jeremy wanted an advanced appliance-based solution that would not only reliably handle the far larger dataset and traffic but potentially integrate the services, making administration simpler.

Jeremy approached several vendors looking for a user-friendly solution that lower-level technicians could easily use. He liked what he saw in DNSBOX, finding its intuitive user interface simple to use and offering the right level of automation and validation to make admin error-free and much less time-consuming.

Pleased to find only good things being said about the product and the level of expert support available from the many reference customers, Jeremy chose a best value solution of a pair of DNSBOX220 remote servers and a DNSBOX420 central master for IPAM that would deliver redundancy and new levels of high network availability.

“Roanoke needs high-performance DHCP that is robust enough to handle the expected growth, yet keep things easy to manage,” says DNSBOX Product Manager Magdalena Jovanovic. “Managed via a single integrated system, both DHCP and IPAM management is radically simplified while additional redundancy ensures the high availability new subscribers will expect.”
