ApplianSys appoint Grahame Davies as chairman

By ApplianSys , July 25th, 2007

ApplianSys today announced Grahame Davies has agreed to become Chairman of ApplianSys, a leading server appliance company. Grahame started his career as a programmer of computer systems when the idea of communication networks attracted him and is known as a pioneer of Internet access in Europe when, in 1992, he co-founded the first dial-up Internet Service Provider Demon Internet.

“In those days ‘www.’ meant nothing as the World-Wide Web as we now know it was not yet invented”, said Grahame. “In the same way, the server appliance approach is mushrooming as a means of delivering value and simplicity within IT networks.  I look forward to assisting ApplianSys in its drive to make network managers’ lives easier through the widespread deployment of appliances”.

In the past decade Grahame Davies moved on first to Easynet and then to Astra. He spent six years as Group Managing Director of Easynet Group plc where he was in charge of organic growth strategy and acquisitions in Europe.  He has recently been CEO of ASTRA, another ISP and Telco and has supported several successful IT start-up companies.

He has been involved at board level with many internet industry organisations including Nominet (the .uk domain registry), IWF (the Internet Watch Foundation which runs a hotline for illegal content), and as the chairman of LINX (The London Internet Exchange - the largest and most successful peering point in the EMEA region) for over 6 years.

We’re delighted that Grahame agreed to become our Chairman.  His experience in growing companies will be an important contribution to our goal of being a leading European appliance vendor. With Grahame’s considerable skills and experience he will help direct our energies and help us move into new market areas and countries faster” said Mike Clark, CEO of ApplianSys.

Importantly, Grahame is also a successful private investor, harassed father, struggling pianist and has interests in www.greatscores.com to assist him in obtaining a mountain of sheet music to feed his hobby.
