ApplianSys announced today that Lindbergh Schools District in St Louis, Missouri has scaled its CACHEBOX deployment again, to increase capacity and redundancy within a resilient cluster.

The school had first bought CACHEBOX230 to resolve the insufficient bandwidth issues it faced because of introducing a laptop-friendly campus initiative. This meant an increase in the number of devices accessing the internet on site. As a result of deploying CACHEBOX, user complaints regarding bandwidth disappeared, with up to 40% hit ratios on a 10Mbps connection.

“Our internet performance is much better thanks to CACHEBOX, which has significantly increased bandwidth availability. I was interested in looking at how CACHEBOX230 could complement our vision of building an educational services platform where everyone can bring their own devices and connect to our sites and to the internet for research, or anything else,” said Director of Technology Mariano Marin-Gomez.

Earlier in April the school bought a second CACHEBOX230 unit to function as a sibling to the first, and ensure there are no bottlenecks in its network infrastructure as demand grows. Now, according to Marin-Gomez, “We have acquired a third CACHEBOX230 unit, which is temporarily being used in a trial environment for students to access our WiFi area. Ultimately, we aim to move this third unit closer to our existing sibling units to form a more resilient network cluster capable of superb browsing speed. We’ll replace it with a smaller unit for our WiFi area.”

Lindbergh Schools (www.lindberghschools.ws) serves a community of approximately 46,000 residents in a 23 square mile area, located in the south western suburbs of St. Louis. It is home to more than 5,600 students at one high school, two middle schools, five elementary schools and an early childhood education centre. Lindbergh is the #1 ranked K-12 schools district in Missouri for academic achievement.
