CACHEBOX is in the Haus!

ApplianSys is pleased to announce that Spadhausen ISP, Italy, has purchased a CACHEBOX solution to improve customer satisfaction and cater for its growing customer base.

Like many countries with mature internet markets, Italy suffers a “digital divide” between urban and rural areas. Larger ISPs focus on delivering services in urban areas where fixed infrastructure is already well developed. Rural areas are neglected because the investment required is high and the potential market small.

Responding to the concerns of residents and businesses in less developed areas, Spadhausen is bridging this divide: it provides wireless internet connectivity using WDSL to around 250 customers in remote areas of the Ravenna province.

WDSL provides a wireless alternative to ADSL lines and is provisioned via 4 radio towers. However, with Spadhausen’s subscriber base growing by 25 users per month, Network Manager Elia Spadoni needed a way to ensure this connectivity continued to meet user expectations. With limited capacity, links were becoming congested as usage grew and requests for bandwidth intensive objects multiplied.

Concerned about the impact this would have on service reputation, Elia sought a cost-efficient caching solution to maintain service levels and improve user experience. He found that CACHEBOX100 was ideal.

The ISP plans to deploy CACHEBOXes on each of the distributed towers. CACHEBOX Sales Executive Sophie Clark comments: “Alternative forms of bandwidth over wireless in remote rural areas will generally offer lower bandwidth potential than urban fixed infrastructure, and/or become uneconomical if trying to match urban bandwidth. This means there’s more likelihood of bottlenecks and disappointment, as rural people increasingly use the web and their expectations rise. CACHEBOX is a way to help bridge this gap.”

“By complementing Spadhausen’s WDSL service and providing optimisation over limited capacity – very affordably- the ISP can now continue expanding its customer base while providing a fast, reliable service to existing subscribers.”

About

Spadhausen ISP was founded in March 2008, and from November 2010 is part of AssoProvider, an association of independent operators in the field of internet and connectivity.

Through radio devices distributed over a network of radio tower transmitters, Spadhausen offers a quality of internet connectivity to rural areas of the Ravenna province that is otherwise only found in urban cities provisioned by larger ISPs.
